The Department of Dermatology at Thomas Jefferson University is seeking a highly motivated medical student/PGY1 eligible to work in the US for a 12-month, funded Derm–Rheum Research Fellowship. This position is designed for individuals planning to apply to dermatology residency with a strong interest in autoimmune and connective tissue diseases (CTD).The fellow will engage in clinical and translational research within a multidisciplinary dermatology–rheumatology program, with structured mentorship and opportunities for scholarly productivity.
Job Description
Essential Functions
- Assist with IRB submissions, protocol development, and regulatory processes
- Perform clinical data collection, abstraction, and database management
- Conduct data analysis with faculty guidance
- Prepare and submit abstracts to national meetings (AAD, SID, ACR)
- Contribute to manuscript writing and submission to peer-reviewed journals
- Participate in multidisciplinary Derm–Rheum clinics
- Attend departmental conferences, grand rounds, and educational sessions
Research Focus Areas
- Dermatomyositis and lupus clinical database development
- Vasculopathy and vasculitis cohort studies
- Connective tissue disease clinical trials
- Outcomes and translational research in autoimmune dermatology
Minimum Qualifications
- Current medical student/PGY1 in good standing
- Completion of core clinical rotations preferred
- Demonstrated interest in dermatology and/or rheumatology
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior research experience (clinical or translational)
- Publications or presentations in peer-reviewed settings
- Interest in academic medicine or physician-scientist career
