Your Impact at Lila

Lila Sciences is building the world's first scientific superintelligence platform and autonomous lab — accelerating breakthroughs across life, chemistry, and materials science. We're looking for a Software Engineering Intern to join our App team and help build the interfaces, services, and AI-powered experiences that put this platform in the hands of scientists.

This isn't a "shadow and observe" internship. You'll ship real code, work alongside ML researchers and scientists, and have the autonomy to tackle meaningful problems. If you've been hacking on side projects with LLMs, building AI agents, or experimenting with new tools on nights and weekends — this is the place to do it for real.

What You'll Be Building

• Design and build features across our full stack (React, TypeScript, Python, FastAPI)
• Prototype and integrate AI-powered workflows — think LLM-driven UIs, agentic tooling, and intelligent data pipelines
• Collaborate directly with ML researchers and scientists to understand their workflows and translate them into software
• Deploy and iterate on production services using cloud infrastructure (AWS, Kubernetes)
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and sprints with the App team

What You’ll Need to Succeed

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• Solid fundamentals in at least one of: Python, TypeScript, or JavaScript
• Familiarity with web development concepts (frontend frameworks, REST APIs, databases)
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment where you'll figure things out as you go
• Strong communication skills — you can explain what you built and why it matters

Bonus Points For

• You hack with AI and can prove it. Show us your projects — a ChatGPT wrapper that actually solves a real problem, an agent that automates something tedious, a RAG pipeline you built for fun, a fine-tuned model, a creative use of tool-calling. Share your GitHub, a demo video, a blog post, or a deployed app. We want to see what you build when nobody tells you what to build.
• Experience with React, TypeScript, or modern frontend frameworks
• Exposure to Python web frameworks (FastAPI, Django, Flask)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) or containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
• Experience with scientific data, lab workflows, or life sciences is a bonus
• Contributions to open-source projects
