Role Overview: 

The Chemical Plant Operator/Inventory Specialist is responsible for safely and efficiently supporting daily chemical production operations. This role includes taking and reconciling inventory, unloading and loading raw materials and finished goods, operating blending equipment, and supporting multiple operational departments as needed. Operators play a key role in ensuring product quality, inventory accuracy, equipment reliability, and compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.

This position will begin on the day shift. After successfully completing a defined training period and demonstrating operational proficiency, the role will transition to second shift.

A Sample of What You’ll Do in This Role:

  • Perform frequent walking, climbing, and standing to conduct physical counts on tanks and inventory stock, perform leak inspections, and manage tank operations

  • Open, close, and line up tanks, valves, and transfer lines for the safe movement of raw materials and finished products

  • Operate and monitor industrial equipment including skid loaders, forklifts, pumps, blenders, reactors, mixers, and weighing scales

  • Safely unload, transfer, and handle bulk and packaged raw materials (such as Acetic Acid, Formic Acid, and Aqua Ammonia) following established procedures and required PPE usage, including respirators

  • Read and interpret gauges, meters, charts, batch sheets, and instrumentation to ensure accurate production and blending operations

  • Monitor equipment performance, identify abnormal conditions, troubleshoot basic operational issues, and promptly report concerns

  • Update inventory records, perform routine inventory audits, and investigate discrepancies to maintain inventory accuracy

  • Maintain accurate inventory logs, production records, reports, and compliance documentation

  • Collect product and raw material samples, accurately label them, and deliver them to the lab for testing

  • Prepare, stage, and properly label drums, totes, and other containers for internal movement or shipment

  • Use Excel spreadsheets and computer systems to input data, track inventory, and support reporting requirements

  • Follow batch instructions and standard operating procedures (SOPs) under supervision

  • Assist maintenance, shipping, and other operational departments as needed

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and participate in safety meetings and training

What You Bring to the Role:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • 1–2 years of experience in a chemical plant, warehouse, manufacturing, or industrial environment preferred

  • Knowledge of inventory control practices and physical inventory processes

  • Previous warehouse, plant, or industrial experience is an asset

  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to work with Excel spreadsheets and production or inventory systems

  • Ability to utilize computers, HMIs, and/or basic electrical or automated equipment

  • Strong safety-oriented work habits and willingness to follow all safety rules and procedures

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Good analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work in temperature extremes up to 110°F in production areas and outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Ability to work in environments with moderately loud noise levels

  • Must pass a pulmonary function test and obtain respirator clearance

  • Must be clean-shaven as required for respirator use
