Purpose of the role

To manage and drive the innovation strategy to meet customer needs and ensure the bank's long-term success and competitive edge. 

Accountabilities

  • Execution of market research to understand customer needs, pain points, and emerging trends to support the analysis of profitability, market size and positioning for new products compared to existing offerings, and to identify opportunities for diversification to gain a competitive advantage.
  • Collaboration with stakeholders across departments and teams including marketing, sales, technology, engineers, designers etc to generate innovative and feasible product ideas and prototypes for testing aligned with customer needs and strategic goals.
  • Development of concepts and specifications which define features, functionalities, target market, user interface, technical specifications and potential revenue models of new products.
  • Evaluation of the technical feasibility, legal compliance, and potential risks associated with the development and launch of the new product.
  • Monitoring of market trends and analysis feedback from internal employees and target customers through prototypes, user testing sessions, and beta programs to identify areas for improvement to refine the product before launch.
  • Management of comprehensive launch plans and technical deployments for products that establish rollout timelines, marketing strategies, training initiatives and communication channels to promote the launch new products effectively.
  • Monitoring of key metrics such as adoption rates, usage patterns, customer satisfaction, and revenue generation to assess the product's performance against set goals.

Role Purpose

The Product Owner – Premier Digital Experience & Innovation is accountable for defining, delivering and evolving the end‑to‑end digital experience for Premier customers across mobile and online channels.

The role owns the Premier digital proposition, ensuring it is clearly differentiated from core retail banking and aligned to the Premier value proposition, with a strong emphasis on innovation, experimentation and continuous improvement. The Product Owner translates Premier strategy into a clear digital roadmap, balancing near‑term delivery with longer‑term transformation to drive customer engagement, retention and growth in the mass‑affluent segment.

To be successful as a "Digital Product Manager -VP", you should have experience with:

Key Accountabilities

Product Strategy & Innovation

  • Own and evolve the Premier digital product vision and roadmap, aligned to Premier proposition strategy and customer needs.

  • Lead innovation for Premier, including ideation, prototyping and testing of new digital capabilities (e.g. Premier hub, differentiated app experience, Premier benefits, family propositions, wealth discovery).

  • Continuously benchmark against best practices, both from UK and globally, in order to drive continuous improvement

  • Embed a test‑and‑learn approach, using customer research, pilots and beta releases to validate innovation before scale.

  • Act as the single point of accountability for Premier‑specific digital journeys, dashboards and entry points.

Product Delivery & Execution

  • Translate strategy into clear product requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria.

  • Lead delivery across Digital, Technology, Premier, PBWM, Marketing and Operations, managing dependencies and prioritisation.

  • Own Premier digital delivery through the full lifecycle: ideation, build, launch, optimisation and retirement.

  • Ensure alignment with app relaunches and broader digital transformation initiatives, avoiding duplication and fragmentation.

Customer Experience, Data & Performance

  • Define and track Premier‑specific KPIs, including NPS, engagement, adoption, cross‑sell and complaints.

  • Use insight and analytics to identify opportunities to improve Premier customer outcomes.

  • Drive continuous optimisation post‑launch to ensure innovation delivers measurable value.

Governance, Risk & Controls

  • Assess technical feasibility, legal compliance and risk for Premier digital initiatives.

  • Demonstrate leadership in risk management and controls, ensuring compliance with Barclays standards.

  • Advise senior stakeholders on trade‑offs, risks and prioritisation decisions.

Stakeholder Leadership

  • Act as a Premier digital subject‑matter expert, advising stakeholders across Retail, Wealth, Digital and Technology.

  • Build trusted relationships and communicate progress, risks and outcomes to senior leadership and SteerCos.

Vice President Expectations

  • Contribute to Premier digital strategy and make recommendations for change.

  • Plan and prioritise resources and roadmaps to support continuous improvement and innovation.

  • If applicable, lead and develop colleagues in line with Barclays leadership expectations.

Skills & Experience

Essential

  • Proven experience in digital product ownership or product management within retail, affluent or wealth‑adjacent banking.

  • Strong experience delivering products using Agile methodologies.

  • Developing Product Requirements, user stories and acceptance criteria

  • Excellent stakeholder management in complex, regulated environments.

  • Strong analytical capability with experience using data to inform decisions.

Highly Valued

  • Experience delivering segment‑specific or differentiated digital experiences.
