Job Description
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Referral Lab Processing - Perform routine referral specimen processing and procedures at acceptable levels of competency on a timely basis. Knowledge of testing requirements, as well as ability to correctly select reference laboratory. Identify technical and specimen related problems or discrepancies. Document all required reference laboratory information accurately, completely and on a timely basis using the correct reference lab requisition, on-line service or interface. Provides courteous and timely customer service. Performs various functions using the Laboratory Information System and Hospital Information System.
Documentation – Labs- Performs scanning of result documents competently when necessary. Performs and documents Quality Assurance procedures, such as pending test list, work list review, etc. Assists in the maintenance, revision and expansion of procedure manuals and ancillary manuals. Maintains full documentation of issues and concern brought forward reference labs and referring clients.
Customer Service and Lab Support - Informs customers/patients of unavoidable delays as soon as possible, apologizing for the delay. Makes things right when a customer's expectations have not been met by taking ownership of the problem, resolving it promptly or referring it to someone who can. Calls critical results and obtains faxed orders for additional testing. Assists customers in retrieving samples from storage tracking system, or adding on additional tests. Assists in retrieving, receiving, verifying, and uploading results from reference laboratories or to clients when necessary. Regularly and conveniently available to provide services to meet the needs have families, clients, and Cincinnati Children's employees as determined by department management and Cincinnati Children's governing body. Maintain current and full knowledge of the laboratory functions supports and provides education and assistance to peers and clients on the workflows for accessing reference lab services.

Develop positive working relationships with peer/colleagues and clients. Share knowledge and/or provide support for team members. Contribute to and promote a positive and professional work environment/atmosphere. May serve as a liaison within the division, organization, and external clients.
Communication – Effectively demonstrate communication skills related to conveying relevant information. Develop and maintain efficient internal communication processes to support the activities of the department/program. Openly communicate across stakeholders regarding clinical, patient care, physical and/or material resources. Keep key leadership, administrative staff and other stakeholders fully informed of projected and actual developments in a timely manner. Prioritize multiple requests for information. Assemble and distribute material for project communications if necessary.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Associates degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Chemical or Biological science OR equivalent combination of education and experience
3+ years of work experience in a related job discipline and Experience in a laboratory setting
Preferred: Certified MLT through national certifying agency
