We’re committed to making a positive impact on the world, providing you with diverse learning and working opportunities, and fostering a culture where everyone’s empowered to be their best.

Commercial Manager (West) – Join Us in Lifting the Weight Off Your Shoulders. Safely.

At Freo Group, our people make the difference. We are committed to operating safely, supporting the communities in which we work, and delivering high-quality outcomes for our clients.

Backed by Marmon Group and Berkshire Hathaway, Freo Group combines the strength and stability of a global organisation with the agility and culture of a locally focused business.

We support major customers across the mining, resources, infrastructure and energy sectors, including BHP, BMA, Glencore, Rio Tinto, South32, Northern Star Resources, Newmont, Santos and Alcoa.

With projects and operations across Australia, Freo Group offers the opportunity to build your career while contributing to some of the country’s most significant industrial and infrastructure projects.

What we’re looking for:

We are seeking a commercially astute leader who can bring structure, insight and constructive challenge to a complex, multi-site operational environment. You will have the ability to see the bigger picture, understand the financial drivers behind performance and translate commercial data into practical actions that improve business outcomes.

As a trusted partner to Operations and Finance, you will support regional performance through strong pricing governance, contract discipline, financial oversight and commercial risk management. This role will suit someone who is confident influencing senior stakeholders, comfortable challenging decisions when required, and passionate about building commercial capability across the business.

The ideal candidate will bring proven multi-site experience across branches, depots and multiple projects, with a strong understanding of cost control, revenue optimisation and operational performance. You will apply a multi-dimensional approach to commercial strategy, balancing financial outcomes with people, customer and broader business priorities.

What you’ll bring to the team:

You will bring strong experience across commercial management, finance, pricing, contract management or operational performance, ideally within a contract-based service environment such as cranes, transport, logistics, mining services or a similar multi-site operation.

You will also bring:

  • 7–10+ years’ experience in commercial, finance or operational roles

  • Strong commercial judgement with the ability to identify margin opportunities, revenue leakage, commercial risk and cost recovery gaps

  • Advanced financial modelling, pricing and commercial analysis capability

  • Experience partnering with operational leaders to improve performance and decision-making

  • Strong stakeholder influence, including the confidence to constructively challenge GM and executive-level leaders

  • A practical, solutions-focused approach with the ability to simplify complex financial insights

  • Tertiary qualifications in Commerce, Finance, Business or a related discipline, with CA/CPA highly regarded

  • Experience with ERP systems, Microsoft D365 or business intelligence tools highly regarded

What you’ll be doing:

In this role, you will lead the commercial rhythm for the Western Region, helping to improve revenue, margin, return on capital and overall commercial performance.

Your key focus areas will include:

  • Partnering with the General Manager and regional leadership team to drive commercial performance

  • Leading regional pricing strategy, rate setting, escalation mechanisms and margin improvement initiatives

  • Strengthening contract governance, risk management, variation support and commercial review processes

  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting, scenario planning and financial performance insights

  • Providing commercial input into tenders, major bids, pricing models and return thresholds

  • Driving monthly commercial performance reviews with Branch Managers and regional leaders

  • Embedding consistent commercial processes across quoting, pricing, contract tracking and cost recovery

  • Lifting commercial awareness and capability across operational leaders

This is an opportunity to step into a role where your commercial expertise will directly influence business performance, support smarter decision-making and help shape the future commercial discipline of Freo Group’s Western Region.
