Role purpose
The Category Strategy Manager shapes category strategy by translating consumer, shopper, and customer insights into a clear point of view on where the category can win. Working with other central functions, the role helps turn that category perspective into clear choices on portfolio, innovation, and communication. The role also acts as the central point of reference on category performance, providing senior leadership in the zone with a clear view of how the category is performing, who is winning or losing, and what is driving those shifts.
Key responsibilities
- Define the key category growth drivers by identifying where growth should come from, grounded in a deep understanding of consumer, shopper, and customer needs
- Build a compelling category growth narrative and trade story that translates these growth drivers into a clear and actionable point of view for the business and retail partners
- Develop category and portfolio recommendations that turn growth drivers into clear choices across innovation, assortment, communication, and activation
- Create scalable category guidance for markets, including strategic principles for assortment, shelf, segmentation, and activation
- Identify cross-market patterns, performance gaps, and emerging trends to support stronger category decisions
Profile / capabilities
- Strong experience in category management, sales, or shopper marketing, with the ability to turn insights into clear priority choices and strategic direction
- Strong analytical capability, with the ability to understand category performance, identify what is driving change, and translate data into clear recommendations
- Strong strategic and commercial thinking, with a solid understanding of the levers that drive growth across portfolio, innovation, assortment, communication, and activation
- Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build a compelling category story and align senior stakeholders in a matrix environment
