Summary
Licensed Practical Nurse, LPN responsible for direct nursing care of assigned patients under the supervision of a Registered NurseMajor Job Functions

Participates in assessment of patient
Collaborates with departmental and interdisciplinary groups in developing the patient plan of care
Follows patient’s plan of care while participating in the direct nursing care to assigned patients
Adjusts care based upon age-specific physiological needs of patients as directed by the Registered Nurse or other authorized person(s)
Maintains an accurate and relevant record of patient care
Administers medication as ordered by physician
Facilitates a safe environment
Recognizes life-threatening situations and responds appropriately
Maintains required competencies
Participates in Performance Improvement activities and monitors the quality of care
Establishes collaborative interpersonal relationships with other Health System staff
Supports patients in the practice of their cultural and spiritual beliefs within limits of the medical regimen
Actively participates in cost containment and completes accurate charging for patient services
Actively demonstrates responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity through compliance with the Hospital Innovation Project (HIP), if applicable
Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:
Education and Formal Training:
High school graduate or equivalent required
Current licensure in North Carolina as a Licensed Practical Nurse or Compact state licensure
Unit Description:
- 5 South is a 36 Bed Oncology/Palliative Care Medical-Surgical Unit consisting of Adult Oncology/Palliative Care and Geriatric patient unit, working on a track schedule.
- Patient Ratio 1:5.
- Our Care team consists of Registered Nurses, a Clinical Educator, Nursing Assistants, Unit Secretary, Resource Nurses, Case Managers, Physical Therapists, Dieticians and Occupational and Speech Therapists.
- New Graduate Nurses are accepted and welcome!
Work Experience:
- 1-2 years of related clinical experience preferred
- Oncology/End of Life Palliative Care
- Wound care
- Medical-Surgical
- Telemetry required
Knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
Demonstrates positive interpersonal skills. Verbal and written skills required. Demonstrates effective organizational and leadership skills. Is knowledgeable of the age specific physiological, psychosocial, developmental and spiritual needs of the patients typically served.
Physical Requirements:
Speech and auditory acuity for communication of patient needs
Visual acuity for observation of patients
Long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting
May involve skin, eye, mucous membrane, or parenteral contact with blood or other potentially infectious material
