R&D Senior Laboratory Technician
Location: Witney
Abbott’s Diabetes Care business designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge glucose monitoring systems and test strips for use in both home and hospital settings, and we have recently launched a new system that will revolutionise how people with diabetes around the world monitor their glucose levels. We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Laboratory Technician to join our R&D Sensor Laboratory team, providing essential laboratory support to help deliver R&D objectives and innovation programmes. As a central member of the UK R&D team, your work will directly support critical product development activities and contribute to process and product innovation. You should be enthusiastic about working in a fast‑paced environment with a collaborative and supportive team.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Supporting daily operations within the R&D Sensor Laboratories.
Working closely with science and engineering teams to introduce new concepts into the laboratory.
Generating continuous improvement ideas and implementing strategies within the laboratory environment.
Ensuring equipment, materials, and instrumentation are calibrated, functionality‑checked, and available to meet critical testing needs.
Creating and maintaining procedures, test protocols, and documentation to support compliant, audit‑ready operations.
Acting as a subject matter expert for laboratory equipment, processes, and test techniques.
Providing detailed technical feedback to the R&D Sensor Area Lead and other technical groups across the department.
Supporting the ongoing development of new and emerging sensor technologies.
Supervising the Sensor Laboratories in the absence of area leads.
Upholding quality, EHS, and compliance standards, ensuring that the area is inspection‑ready at all times.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual who takes initiative, communicates effectively, and thrives in a dynamic and evolving environment. Strong time‑management and organisational skills are essential.
You should have completed secondary education in English, Mathematics, and Science. Preference will be given to candidates with previous laboratory experience, experience in regulated or quality‑orientated industries, and familiarity with GLP and GMP principles.
