The marketing and communications team in the computer science department is hiring multiple student interns for the fall semester, with potential to extend!
Communications & PR Intern
Are you a concise, organized writer who enjoys shaping information into clear, purposeful communication? UT Computer Science is hiring a Communications & PR Intern to support department-wide messaging for students, faculty, staff, campus partners, and the public. In this role, you’ll write sharp, timely content that promotes events, celebrates achievements, and communicates key updates across internal and public channels. It’s a great fit for students interested in PR, internal communications, and brand-aligned storytelling within a mission-driven, top-ranked academic department.
Responsibilities
Draft internal announcements, email copy, and newsletter content
Write short news briefs about faculty awards, grants, events, and milestones
Assist with PR-style communications for partnerships, guest speakers, and achievements
Create polished content for the UTCS website, digital signage, and social media
Help track editorial requests and updates in the project management system
Support the tone and consistency of internal and external messaging
Collaborate with other interns to align messaging across platforms
What You Might Work On
A brief news post on a major faculty award or research grant
A write-up on an alum-founded startup deploying CS tools in hospitals
A feature story about a mentorship initiative or student support program
Internal newsletter blurbs celebrating UTCS community wins
Collaborating with the social media intern to develop messaging-aligned captions
Ideal Skills
Clear, efficient writing and editing, especially for informational content
Some experience writing for an organization (student org, internship, blog, etc.)
Ability to manage multiple short turnaround assignments
Interest in how communication shifts between internal and public audiences
Familiarity with university or academic environments is a plus
Working knowledge of Asana or basic CMS tools is helpful but not required
What You’ll Learn
How to write for a variety of internal and external audiences
Real-world experience supporting communication strategies in a large organization
PR-style writing for digital platforms, faculty news, and events
How to support and manage messaging consistency across departments
Portfolio-ready writing samples with measurable impact
How to Apply
Submit your resume and 1–2 writing samples that show your ability to communicate clearly and strategically. We’re especially interested in samples that reflect PR, institutional storytelling, or event/news writing. Writing samples from class assignments or writing for student organizations are totally fine.

Additional Job Details
Hours: 15 hours/week
Pay: $15/hour
Schedule: Flexible; hybrid (40% on-site, 60% remote)
